Coaching Business: How to Choose a Domain Name

Picking a domain name is one of the most important decisions you will make next to picking your niche and the name of your coaching business. In today’s market you must have an online presence and be easy to find on the internet.

The domain name you choose will have a direct effect on how high you rank on a search and that will affect the number of people that find your site.

Think About Your Target Market
Think about the words a person in your target coaching niche will use when searching for information and include those keywords in you domain name.

Make a list of all the key words you can think of that a person would use to search for your target coaching niche then use a keyword search tool like Wordtracker to see how many people search using several key words on your list.

You want to pick one of the higher ranking key words to include in your name if possible but not necessarily the highest ranking. For example, coaching ranks the highest but life coaching would be a better choice because coaching can mean any type of coaching even sports coaching. You do not have to use a keyword in your domain name but it is a good thing to do if it fits your business.

How to Purchase a Domain Name
There are many places to purchase domain names and I suggest so make sure you are getting a reasonable price. You may need to find a place to host your domain depending on what you decide to do with it so be aware that you do not have to host your site at the same place you purchase your domain name.

Purchasing a domain name can be tricky so be sure that you are paying only for the domain name when you check out. Many services will add suggested additions to your order during the check out process if you do not proceed carefully. A domain name should cost around $10.00.

Use Caution
Dot com is the preferred suffix for a domain name. You can change some part of your desired domain name to find one that is not taken with a dot com suffix. Be careful when you type you domain name in for the search and when you purchase it or you may accidentally purchase a domain name with one wrong letter. You will not be the first one to do this and the good news is that it is not a terribly costly mistake.

Some marketers purposely purchase common misspellings of their desired domain name then forward the misspelled domain to the correct domain. Be careful when you choose a name especially if you are using a plural word in your name. Carefully decide if you wish to use the singular or the plural of a specific word.

Watch Your Language
I doubt that you would put a dirty word in your domain name on purpose but when you combine words without spaces odd things can happen so be sure to look your domain name carefully. Also, be sure to avoid trademark names.

A domain name that appeals to your target coaching niche and includes keywords that people will use in an internet search will deliver many visitors to your site and result in more coaching clients.
